New Musical Works / Commissions
Craig has long been a champion of new and innovative musical works. He has commissioned numerous pieces of new music, both major works and lighter repertoire. A list of these, along with details of their premiere performances, can be found here
Craig is currently working on two major commissions, details on which can be found below:
The Bards of Wales
Craig is working together with Concert Masters International of Hungary on a major new commission, an exciting new work by leading Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, commissioned by László Irinyi and CMI. Based on the iconic ballad by Hungarian poet János Arany, The Bards of Wales was completed in 2011 and received its world premiere at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, at the Palace of Arts, Budapest on 21 June.
Details of the 2012 UK premiere are currently being finalised and will be posted here as and when they become available. Further information on the work and the commission itself can be found here.
Rasputin, the Musical
In addition to The Bards of Wales, Craig is also working on Rasputin, Ripples to Revolution a new musical by West End musical theatre star Peter Karrie. The musical is based on the story of Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, the Russian Orthodox Christian and mystic perceived as having influenced the latter days of the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II, Tsaritsa Alexandra, and their only son Tsarevich Alexei.
Further information on the project, along with samples of the music, can be found at www.rasputinthemusical.weebly.com
The Red Lady of Paviland
In 2010 Craig commissioned and premiered Andrew Powell & Menna Elfyn's 'Y Dyn Unig', a cantata on a Welsh theme for Tenor, Harp, Mixed Choir, Children's Chorus & Brass Band, based upon the story of the 20 000 year old Red Lady of Paviland.
The story of the Red Lady, and work connected with the project, continued in 2011 with the work of noted science communicator Mark Brake of iScience in the 2011 Valleys Discovery Festival event 'In These Bones Horizons Sing', and in December 2011 the 'Hwiangerdd', the central element of 'Y Dyn Unig', was recorded by the Philharmonia Orchestra and Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas at Abbey Road Studios, for release in the summer of 2012.
Further information on the Red Lady project and Y Dyn Unig can be found in the project's own section of this website here
