Nadolig Llawen i Bawb
Compliments of the season to all. Craig has had a busy but enjoyable and productive end to 2010 with a series of festive performances at home and abroad.
Sadly, due to the inclement winter weather across the UK, the Making Music Wales 'Carols For Cymru' event at the Wales Millennium Centre unfortunately had to be cancelled, however many other very excellent and enjoyable performances did go ahead, with The Wonder of Christmas concert, festive visits to Ravensburg and Nurtingen, and carolling for children's hospice Ty Cymorth with Symphonic Brass Wales on Boxing Day being particular highlights.
News about forthcoming events for 2011 will soon be posted on this site, but in the meantime a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all - Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i bawb.

Imperial Ice Stars return to Cardiff
The world’s premiere theatrical ice skating company, THE IMPERIAL ICE STARS, return to the UK this autumn with a dynamic new interpretation of their award-winning masterpiece Swan Lake on Ice, part of a two year, 22-country world tour.
Swan Lake on Ice began its UK tour on Tuesday 5 October, and between October 26 to November 6 now features at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
The Imperial Ice Stars have received standing ovations from UK audiences on each of their previous three tours (Sleeping Beauty on Ice 2004, Swan Lake on Ice 2006, Cinderella on Ice 2008/09) and earned outstanding reviews with their adrenaline-infused performances.
This production of Swan Lake on Ice features exhilarating new choreography and some of the world’s most stylish dancing on ice from Artistic Director Tony Mercer, widely regarded as the world’s leading creator of theatre on ice, as well as new effects and costumes. The score, as always, has been masterfully prepared by composer / arranger Tim A. Duncan, and features musicians from Symphonic Brass Wales.
The 26 World, European and National Championship skaters, who between them hold more than 250 competition medals, take contemporary ice dance to a new level with their daring and graceful feats – some of which are so complex they haven’t yet been named – in the intimate setting of a frozen theatre stage.
“Inspired by my research into Tchaikovsky’s original score and intentions for the story, I wanted to create a more realistic interpretation of this much-loved tale and transpose it onto ice, creating a new art form in the process – ice dance in a full theatrical setting,” explains Tony Mercer. “I always felt it was a natural fit, to have swans gliding on ice.”
“I created our original Swan Lake on Ice four years ago in a classical style with elements of contemporary ice dance. With this production I’ve significantly re-worked the choreography to incorporate even more contemporary skating manoeuvres, and challenged our skaters to reach for new heights again!”
The costuming has also been refined for this new production, with some dazzling and sophisticated designs from renowned costumier Albina Gabueva of Moscow’s Stanislavsky Theatre, and made by the famous Bolshoi Ballet’s costume cutters.
Swan Lake on Ice will be performed against lavish backdrops and scenery created by one of Australasia’s leading scenic designers, Eamon D’Arcy. Together with Tchaikovsky’s uplifting music, this innovative portrayal of the classic love story will take your breath away.
The Imperial Ice Stars have performed to almost three million people across five continents, at some of the world’s most prestigious venues – London’s Royal Albert Hall and Sadler’s Wells, Singapore’s Esplanade Theatre, Montreal’s Place des Arts and Cape Town’s Artscape, winning five-star praise from audiences and critics alike.
Their world tours have earned them an unrivalled reputation for pushing the boundaries in the genre of ice dance with their skill and athleticism on the ice, their creative and powerful story-telling, their sumptuous sets, spectacular special effects and opulent costumes.
Whether you’ve seen The Imperial Ice Stars’ Swan Lake on Ice before or have yet to experience the thrill of world-class ice skating in the intimacy of the theatre, this dramatic new ice interpretation of one of the most popular ballets will have you on the very edge of your seat.
Further information on the show can be found at the website of the Wales Millennium Centre or the Imperial Ice Stars own site www.imperialicestars.com while a promotional video for the show can be found below:

Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo Royal Visit
The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo recently made headlines across the world in regard to a proposed visit to the show by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as part of The Queen's forthcoming summer tour of Canada.
The Tattoo have made their position on the issue clear in the following press release:
Statement of Clarification
March 29, 2010, Halifax, NS, Canada: The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is disappointed that the subject of Her Majesty’s potential visit to the show became public knowledge before all issues could be resolved.
Amidst all the rumours that are circulating, the Tattoo wishes to make its position very clear.
The stairs in question are not stairs; they are theatrical presentation risers that no one uses without extensive rehearsals under show lighting conditions. The risers are a part of the world’s largest indoor stage and during the Finale are already packed with (rehearsed) musicians.
This is not in any way shape or form an age issue. A large number of the Production Team is well over 60 years of age. This is a safety and dignity issue. The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo will not place Her Majesty or His Royal Highness in the position where their physical safety and/or their public dignity could be in any way compromised.
The Tattoo has always been and still is prepared to do anything to make this visit possible and is only concerned that the appropriate levels of safety and dignity are maintained for the Monarch.
The very first show was opened in 1979 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Subsequent shows have been attended by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke of York, The Earl of Wessex and The Princess Royal. The Tattoo has an immense amount of experience in the protocol and security surrounding royal visits.
Numerous options have been presented to enable Her Majesty to attend the Tattoo and be seen by thousands of Nova Scotians and members of the Canadian Forces as well as by the thousands of national and international military and civilian performers of all ages. These options include the construction of special stages for Her Majesty, the ability to speak from the Royal Box and even a chance for a walk-around backstage with the cast and crew.
The Tattoo is immensely disappointed, especially on behalf of the younger cast members and those cast members serving in the Canadian Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, that officials somewhere in the chain of communication between Nova Scotia and Buckingham Palace via Ottawa have decided to block this opportunity. We cannot be certain at what level this decision was made but we do know that Her Majesty takes a great pride in the work of the Canadian Forces, has a great love of military music and as someone who served during the war years, is herself one of the veterans that we salute at every show.
The Tattoo hopes this decision can be reversed.

Cinderella In the Press
Following its stunning opening night at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, the media have begun to offer their thoughts on Tony Mercer's production of Cinderella On Ice, featuring the Russian Imperial Ice Stars and the brilliant musical score of Tim A. Duncan and Edward Barnwell:
"...the kind of artistic innovation in ice dancing that Cirque du Soleil has achieved in circus"
Donald Hutera, The Times
Hearts Melt as Cinders Gets Her Skates On
"...that skating is something else. For the first half, my heart was mostly in my mouth"
Patrick Marmion, Daily Mail
"...exhilarating spins, lifts and leaps into a space just a third the size of a normal arena. Projected scenery and special effects of fire, rain and flying, combined with Tim A Duncan and Edward James Barnwell’s rousing score and Albina Gabueva’s lavish costumes, make this a spectacular production. It is rapturously received"
Liz Arratoon, The Stage
"a spectacular show along the lines of Cirque de Soleil"
Sarah Frater, WhatsOnStage.com
"As well as ice, expect to see fire, rain and jaw dropping stunts from [Cinderella's] cast of Olympic and World Champion ice skaters."
